Summary
Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the shortlist for the "High Performance Bioreactor Innovation Task".

As a joint unit, Belun Biotechnology (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. joined hands with Chuanning Biology, Xinjiang University, Chinese Academy of Sciences Process Engineering Research Institute and other units to tackle key technologies focusing on the task of "core mass transfer components of bioreactor".
In order to strengthen the integrated innovation capability of the core components, key components and operating systems of the bioreactor, break the bottleneck of the supply of key equipment for biological manufacturing, and enhance the core competitiveness of the industry, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, together with the Chinese.
Academy of Sciences, jointly launched the work of "unveiling the innovation task of high-performance bioreactor", which covered three major task directions, a total of nine specific tasks, and attracted many scientific research institutes and leading enterprises across the country to participate in the competition.
This time, Bailun Biology undertakes the key research and development task of the core mass transfer component, which specifically includes three core contents.
One is to build a digital and intelligent simulation design platform for the core mass transfer components of bioreactors (including stirring blades, membrane components, etc.), to achieve precision and efficiency in component design;

Secondly, for cultivation scenarios involving no less than three types of cells/microorganisms, establish a corresponding relationship between cell biomechanics and biochemical indicators in the reactor to provide data support for component optimization;
The third is to build a professional database of core mass transfer components and complete the preparation of key components, improving the operational efficiency of bioreactors throughout the entire chain from design to implementation.
According to the task requirements, the project has set clear phased expected goals and plans to fully achieve a series of results by 2027.
In terms of component manufacturing, we aim to achieve large-scale design and manufacturing of core mass transfer components such as agitator blades and membrane modules, which can adapt to the usage needs of microbial reactors ranging from 1 to 20000L and cell reactors ranging from 1 to 50L, covering the entire scenario from small-scale research and development to large-scale production.
In terms of database construction, a professional database for intelligent development system targeting stirring system and perfusion membrane separation system will be established, including no less than 30 core parameters such as stirring blade diameter, height, speed, membrane material, membrane surface roughness, flow rate, pressure, etc.

The cumulative data volume will not be less than 10000, and seamless data sharing with bioreactor industrial operating system will be achieved.
In terms of performance improvement, clear indicators should be developed for reactors of different scales - for small-scale reactors below 10L, the oxygen transfer coefficient Ka should be greater than 800h ⁻¹ at room temperature, 1VVM ventilation rate, and stirring rate not exceeding 900rpm;
When a ton scale large-scale reactor adopts a universal tank body and a circular gas distributor, the oxygen transfer coefficient Ka is increased by 10% and the mixing time is reduced by more than 5% compared to the existing universal stirring blade under the same power consumption and ventilation rate;

The shear rate of the membrane separation system is less than 4000s ⁻¹, and under the condition of cell density of 10 ⁷ cells/mL, the 24-hour membrane flux loss is less than 80% and cell viability loss is less than 10%. The relevant results will be verified and implemented in practical application scenarios.
Bailun Biotechnology has been deeply cultivating bioreactor equipment and core components for a long time. The company has accumulated profound technical experience in optimizing mass transfer efficiency and designing component structures.
Through independent research and development, multiple core technology patents have been formed, and bioreactor related components have been widely used in fields such as biomedicine and microbial fermentation.
